How Your View of God Affects Your Life

07 Sep How Your View of God Affects Your Life

Agave Sozo is an inner healing prayer ministry seeking to serve those struggling with depression, sadness, pain, and other issues in the Chandler, Gilbert, and Phoenix areas.

If you ask people who God is to them, you may get many different answers. A person’s perception of God can vary depending on their religious beliefs and personal experience. We may never know all there is to know about God, but we can certainly grow in our understanding of Him. Your view of God affects your life and your experience of Him.  Agave Sozo believes that the truth will set you free.

Who is God?

Who is God?  Traditionally, many of us have grown up with a view of God that is not necessarily Biblical. For example, we might believe He is angry, distant or quick to judge.  The wonderful news is that God is the very opposite. He is eternally loving, kind, patient and forgiving. In addition, He desires to have a close and intimate connection with us! According to the Bible:

  • There is Only One True God: “…yet for us there is but one God, the Father, from whom all things came and for whom we live; and there is but one Lord, Jesus Christ, through whom all things came and through whom we live.” 1 Corinthians 8:6

  • God is Love: “Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God. Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love.” 1 John 4:7-8.

  • God is Merciful: “But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions—it is by grace you have been saved.” Ephesians 2:4-5

  • God is Gracious: “But you, Lord, are a compassionate and gracious God, slow to anger, abounding in love and faithfulness.” Psalm 86:15

There are infinite ways to explain who God is. The Bible shows us His great character and beautiful, loving nature in every verse and story written. The Bible is His love letter to us which helps us draw closer to who He truly is.

How Your View of God Affects Your Life

We often let our experiences with our parents, friends, siblings, etc. shape our view of who God is. When we experience difficulties in these relationships, throughout our younger years as we are growing up, we may end up placing a barrier between us and God because we project the actions of others onto His character. This may result in a skewed perspective of God or never achieving a deep connection with Him. For example, if we have emotionally distant parents, we may come to believe that God the Father is distant and emotionless, and find ourselves performing to earn His love instead of living securely in knowing we are fully loved by Him. This can lead to choosing unhealthy love relationships in our lives. In other words… “looking for love in all the wrong places”. If you are struggling with an aspect of God’s character, be encouraged because there is help available.

To connect with the one true God, dive into His Word. Devour the pages of the Bible and invite the Holy Spirit to reveal God’s true nature to you as you read. Ask the Holy Spirit to reveal the areas where you may have misconceptions about God and how those misconceptions are negatively affecting you. Agave Sozo, through the Bethel Sozo Tools,  can help you through this process and reaffirm the truth that will bring you into deeper freedom!
